Quantification of hydrogen cyanide in fire effluent

چکیده
Hydrogen cyanide is often the most toxicologically significant component in fire effluents from nitrogen-containing materials. Unlike other major asphyxiant, carbon monoxide, sensors for continuous hydrogen quantification, at and above dangerous concentrations, are not commercially available. This article investigates analysis of effluent captured bubbler solutions, by colorimetric quantification using chloramine-T/isonicotinic acid. The samples were mixed with reagents to give a blue dye response ions. A novel reaction scheme accounting formation ions presented. Dilute, standard solutions found be stable after storage up 1 year. Alkaline through which has passed, showed consistent stored between 5°C 21°C, 31 days sampling. effect common likely present solution (CO 3 2− , SO 4 NO 2 − ) was investigated their potential interference. interference sulphite reduced apparent concentration 13% 10 mg L −1 concentration.

Cyanide generation during preservation of chlorinated wastewater effluent samples for total cyanide analysis.
Dechlorinating agents and pH adjustment are often used to preserve wastewater samples for cyanide analysis. The effects of four approved preservation protocols on the results of the total cyanide analysis of effluents from four water reclamation plants were examined. The results differed widely, and a clear pattern emerged. Immediate analysis without pH adjustment generally gave total cyanide c...

متن کاملMetabolism of hydrogen cyanide by higher plants.
A survey has been made of the occurrence and distribution of three enzymes which metabolize cyanide in a variety of higher plants including both cyanogenic and non-cyanogenic species. The enzymes investigated were beta-cyanoalanine synthase, rhodanese and formamide hydrolyase. beta-Cyanoalanine synthase was found to be present in every higher plant tested whereas rhodanese was found to occur fa...
